Unexpected find: Special freshwater mussel in the Nuwejaars Wetlands
The Nuwejaars River and Wetlands have enabled a significant range expansion for a freshwater mussel known as the Cape River Mussel.
A special visit and sighting
Our Nuwejaars hippos really know how to impress. And they did just that when the Suidpunt Conservation Society (Suidpunt Bewarings Vereniging) visited the Nuwejaars Wetlands Special Management Area.
A wonderful sight
This is a Liparia splendens, commonly known as the ‘geelkoppie’ or ‘klipblom’. They’re quite a rare sight normally, so lovely to see them light up the SMA’s fynbos.
